Finish a track, and understand why it works.
Production lessons run inside Logic Pro, on your songs. I teach the Logic basics and how to track out a song, from first idea to bounced file. More importantly, I teach the producer-level understanding underneath: how the different instruments function together, and how they need to be mixed and produced so the song sounds as good as it can.
The honest scope: I'm not an expert on all of the paid plugins, and I won't pretend to be. What you get is a working process. Record, arrange, mix, finish. If you have a folder of half-finished ideas, that folder is the syllabus.
The synth settings got me before the songs did.
My first keyboard was a small Yamaha I got one Christmas in kindergarten. I would wake up early on Sunday mornings to play it, and honestly, I spent more time in the synthesizer settings than on the keys. The portamento and the envelopes on that little keyboard fascinated me. That fascination led to Pro Tools with a friend in Ohio, then GarageBand, then Logic.
If you're starting from GarageBand, you're closer than you think. When I upgraded to Logic for the bigger effects and plugins, I was surprised how functionally similar it felt, and I took off tracking things almost immediately. The jump looks big and isn't. I'll walk you across it.
A file you made, and the process to make the next one.
A finished track is the natural milestone here. For instrument students, a recorded track of you playing is one of the destinations on the menu. For songwriters, the demo we record is where the songwriting lane lands. Either way, you leave with music you finished and the understanding to finish more without me.
